The film about the evil Joker, “Ad Astra” by Brad Pitt or “Marriage Story” by Scarlett Johansson is interested in the Venice Film Festival 2019.
The 76th Venice Film Festival (Italy) takes place from August 28 to September 7. The event is one of the three major film festivals of the year (besides Cannes and Berlin), and is also a “launch pad” for many works on the Oscar racetrack. The writers of Indiewire, Variety picked out some notable films.
Brad Pitt plays Roy McBride – an astronaut traveling to the edge of the solar system. Here, Roy discovered something that could threaten the survival of mankind. In addition to Pitt, the film has the participation of veteran actor Tommy Lee Jones (Roy’s father).
A science-fiction film has a budget of up to $ 85 million, directed and co-written by James Gray, and filmed by Hoyte Van Hoytema. Indiewire expects the work to provide an overwhelming visual experience, similar to Interstellar – a film with a cosmic theme, also hosted by Hoytema.
Joker gained attention as a rare film from superhero comics at one of the world’s three biggest film festivals. However, the protagonist is not a superhero but a Joker (Joaquin Phoenix) – a mischievous, crazy villain often confronting Batman (Batman)
According to Yahoo, Alberto Barbera – president of Venice Film Festival – praised the Joker: “It is darker than The Dark Knight and Joaquin Phoenix (the male lead) reached the peak of acting”.
The cast of Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas made The Laundromat look to the professionals. In the film, the character Ellen (Streep) discovers shady deals done at a company in Panama. Ellen then realized this was only a small part of a system of tax evasion and money laundering of many billionaires and politicians.
The film was inspired by the Panama Profile financial scandal in 2016, which was once rocked by the involvement of many global influential figures. In the director’s seat was Steven Soderbergh – a pioneer of independent American film – who won an Oscar directed with Traffic (2000).
